Hi there!
Ya might remember me, I emailed you several months back inquiring about the format change at KXYQ in regard to the Saturday show called "The Morning After Show".
I have been having an argument with my mom over the period of time when KGW (620am) changed from a music format to a talk format...I swear I listened to it when I was a younger girl, but my mom says I wasnt even born when it was music. Can you help?
Thanks either way!
Merry Christmas!

I find it hard to belive that KKSN is not on the WEB.
I listen to them every morning traveling West out the SUNSET Hwy 26 going to work and have to change stations from the Zoo exit to Murry Blvd exit to avoid the interferance from some other station.
Doesnt the FCC control this type of thing?

It is confirmed. Entercom has bought KSLM in Salem and plans to start simulcasting KFXX beginning December 17, 1998. The article was in the 12/16/98 Salem Statesman Journal. This will increase their coverage in the valley, which was lost when they switch frequencies from 1520 to 910am.

Dear staff,
There is a rumor that CBS/Westinghouse can buy McKenzie Broadcasting, Inc. in the forseeible future, like maybe next year. Can the guys like they did when it bought Infinity?
CBS/Westinghouse, also owns stations in Portland and other large cities, will probably have more commercial time 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. The McKenzie guys, Bob Oxarart and John Tilson, probably says that CBS rumored that they will buy McKenzie, which owns only 3 stations, in Eugene, KMGE, KKNU, and KKXO. Maybe Mckenzie or CBS can get more independents like KEUG, KKNX, and maybe the other independents. If CBS buys McKenzie Broadcasting, it would do the same thing for the Portland CBS radio affiliates, it would get the Eugene traffic reports, and maybe more commercial air time, 10 commercials every hour for 24 hours. Could CBS radio expand to more smaller markets like they have brought American Radio Systems and Infinity Broadcasting? Could KLOO-FM and the Jacor guys in Medford be like that?
Tell the guys at CBS Radio Portland and John and Bob about that. Well be keeping our eyes for CBS (or probably Jacor) to buy McKenzie Broadcasting in the future. Maybe CBS radio in Eugene. Hope your wishes come true. Im a radio expert.
Sincerely,
Derek

I was listening to your radio program between am and am today. There was some different sounding music played for just a short time. The announcer at that time said his wife heard the group and she thought the group was very good. I dont know the announcers name or the groups name. I thought he said the groups name was "Terry Reilly" or something like that. Could you possible tell me what the name of the group was and the CD if possible?
Thank you,

I am an avid talk radio listener and I appreciate your site. I listen to 1360
am out of Washington Co and they have some national talk hosts such as Oliver
North and G Gordon Liddy. They also have recently added some local talk hosts
talking Portland issues. You may want to add them to your talk list.

You probably figured this out, but it didn't occur to me when I sent the message yesterday that--since the Vancouver CP is at 105.9, and KKLQ in San Diego was known as Q106--Jacor may call the new station Q106 as well. That is, of course, unless the new call letters are yet another Jacor smokescreen.

I noticed the little tidbit about Jacor's new FM CP now going by the call letters KKLQ. Those were the calls used by one of Jacor's (former?) properties in San Diego. (They had to spin off a few stations there to close the Nationwide deal; Jacor might still own the frequency, but certainly the format-flipping that resulted claimed the life of the old KKLQ [Q106].) Of course, Jacor's been extremely partial towards using the "Mix" moniker. They've flipped basic AC stations in Des Moines (I believe), Cleveland and Cincinnati (I know)--and maybe some other markets--to "Mix". I'm just wondering if the new Vancouver FM will try fighting Rosie 105 in the all-but-"Mix" arena or try something else.

Hi there, thanks for writing about radio. I have a couple of
questions:
Is any station carrying the "Old Time Radio" shows. I was getting them
on 1150 AM when it was KKEY for a while, till it got dark, then they had
to turn down the power and I lost them. The Old Time Radio network
still lists them as carrying the show.
Is any station doing new productions of this type?
I came to your site to find out who the ABC affiliate was. I didn't
find any sort of listing that gave this information. Did I miss
something? If not you may want to add it. Just a suggestion.
I look forward to your response.
Thanks and regards,
Please no junk mail, thank you

How could you replace Dr. Grant w/ 3hours of Rick Emerson? He is too similar to Tom Leykis in his mentality and Jr. High boy antics. 6hours with these two fellas is a real stretch. (I bet a man made the decision to make the change)
Dr. Toni Grant is getting a real groundswell of support & becoming very popular (Because she is good, qualified, and much better than the other radio psycologists).
Can't you fit her program in anywhere? For a radio talk show station your station has no psycologists and needs to fit a broader audience. (Some of us don't give a damn about a woman's "rack" or listening to how low mankind can sink as a race)
Give us Dr. Grant. She promotes hopefulness in humanity & challenges us all. Plus all the woman at my work and clubs love her....can't you reconsider....or at least do a market survey? You goofed............................a former KOTK listener

To whom it may concern:
I was so disappointed when I turned on my radio at 12noon to 1080, and Dr Toni
was gone! I will unfortunately be changing channels, because I have no
interest in whoever was talking instead, infact that makes line up of whoever
that was, and Tom Lykus, I occassionally will listen to Tom Lykus, but my
absolute favorite is Dr Toni Grant, I was thrilled to find her again after
many years. I was an avid listener to her when she was broadcasting out of
Los Angeles. I wish you would have her back, and if not let me know where I
can find her, because thats who I will be looking for.
I will be tuning 1080 out for now!

Just saw your page for the 1st time...and loved it.
Although I've never been to Portland, a good friend did visit your area
over the summer and
brought back about 6 C90 cassette tapes of
radio stations (airchecks) from your area.
I loved KKJZ (I think that's the calls), your
market's smooth jazz station.
Do you know anybody in your area who would
be interested in occassionally swapping airchecks of KKJZ for stations in
my area (Cleveland/Akron, Ohio...we have virtually any
format available)??? I'm looking for unscoped,
any time of day or day of the week...no big deal.
Any ideas, or if you can help...please let me
know.

Somebody else has probably told you this, but it looks like Paul Allen is going to buy the KXL combo. (Source: www.radio-online.com today.)
Also, is there something up with KBPS-AM/KPSU??? It looks like www.kpsu.org is a dead domain and the KBPS info on the Portland School District site has been taken down. (This apparently doesn't affect KBPS-FM.)

Hi, I just found this web site via the Children's Music web site
(childrensmusic.org). It's very well put together and informative. BUT,
it does not have nearly enough information about KBOO, 90.7 fm, which is
a great asset to the Portland radio waves. Here are a few of my
suggestions:
1. This year marks KBOO's 30th anniversary. That can, and should, be
added to your "Twisting the Dial" section. KBOO is the 5th oldest
community radio station in the country, no small feat. A lot of history
is available about how it expanded from a small, classical station to
what it is now.
2. In the "Program Style" section, I must suggest adding KBOO to the
information part. KBOO is referred to in the music part as "eclectic"
but it also offers a great deal of Talk Radio (every weekday morning
from 7:30-9), news (7:00-7:30am, 5:00-6:30pm), and public affairs
programming.
3. KBOO should be added to the Spanish music section as it offers
Spanish language programming multiple times during the week.
4. I'd love to see KBOO listed under "Portland Radio Ownership." KBOO is
owned and operated by the KBOO Foundation, which is comprised of all of
it's members - individuals and families from the northwest community.
Please feel free to e-mail myself or KBOO radio's Station Manager, Alan
Baily, for more information or clarification. You can also check out
KBOO's website (www.kboofm.org)
Thanks!

Dear Sir,
For those people who miss the rock 'n' roll classics on the
the former ³Earth 105² (formerly KKRH, now KRSK
Rosie 105), I found a station out of Corvallis that plays a
hybrid of rock 'n' roll classics and oldies, and it's
KLOO-FM at 106.1 FM (website
www.kloo.com/106.cfm).
The station puts out 100,000 watts from a transmitter north
of Corvallis and west of Albany, and the signal can be
heard in some parts of Portland (mainly the west side and
its suburbs).
Thank you.

STATION FOR SALE..??
Rumor has it KVAN Radio 1550 AM in Vancouver is being sold. Can anyone confirm
this..? The word is... the folks that own KPAM are buying it (the two stations
currently share the same transmitter towers). The deal hasn't made it to the
FCC yet. If the sale were completed...it would seem the KPAM folks would have
no need for two AM's and probably just close KVAN and resell the license. Any
comments..? I wonder why Jacor hasn't made a bid....

The "News" reported on KEWS is anything but news.
What they do is take issue advocacy press releases from various
organizations and repeat them verbatim.
Then, to assure that they can do this with impunity, the cowards make
it a point to not provide staff to answer their published telephone number.
They also don't provide a web site or email addresses for feedback. And
their voice mail system does not provide voice mailboxes for the on air
personalities. In short, they don't give a damn what the listeners think.
Case in point. KEWS is selling advertising time for a the political
issue of statehood for Puerto Rico. On the morning of Sept. 4th the
morning team, Greg Jarret and Manda Colberson (sp?), interviewed a
gentlemen who was pro-statehood. This gentlemen repeated the issues
presented in the political ad, which were that the issue was mostly
an economic one, and that it makes economic sense to make Puerto Rico
a state.
The uninformed hosts did not ask their guest about the partisan components
of the issue. The fact that Democrats are pushing this issue to expand their
voter base never came up. The fact that the CBO has produced a study stating
that making Puerto Rico a state would cost the US far more money in benefits
than it would raise in income tax revenue also never came up.
In short, the interview was flimsy boilerplate done to satisfy an
advertiser.
Another story receiving extensive coverage on September 4th was the
press release by HCI giving Oregon a near-failing grade on gun safety
issues. Why didn't this morning team present the FACT that states
receiving the best HCI grades ALSO had the WORST firearm violence
problems? Wouldn't this raise a question in the listeners mind that
perhaps the policies that HCI are advocating do more harm than good?
But no. To raise questions like these would challenge the intellectual
laziness of the KEWS staff.
These people are EXACTLY the reason why I no longer trust any component
of the popular news media.

I live out of state and I''m only able to listen to Bill Gallagher when I
visit with my family in Portland. Please hook up with Real Audio so the rest
of the world can enjoy Bill too. :-)

I really enjoy your site. Don't even think about discontinuing it. Did
you know KEWS has their own website? I don't know what the address is
but I accessed it through KOIN's site. Again, I really enjoy your site
and wish every city had one like it. Have you ever considered
sydicating?

Earth 105 was cool, not it sucks as "Rosie". Sounds like "Rosie and her
five sisters" if you know what I mean.
And where the hell is the Big B. A. (Bob Ancheta)? Can't they keep good
talent?

Hi there!
Just thought I'd let you know - as I was listening to Rosie 105, I believe
I heard new call letters - KRSK. You might verify that - I only heard one
ID, and I could have misheard.
Also, I went to the FCC's page to verify, and it still comes up as KKRH
there, but no one is assigned KRSK. I wouldn't think the FCC would be
behind on this, but who knows?
Thanks,

Here is a email I sent to a local news station,it expresses why I am complaing
against KKRZ(Z100 Radio).

I just noticed this on the Oregon Live radio page--and confirmed it on the station's site--but KMHD is now offering a live RealAudio Netcast. (Unlike other Portland stations, they're not doing it through broadcast.com [the former AudioNet].) Also, the K-LOVE (KLVP) folks also do a live Netcast--in both RealAudio and MS Windows Media (the former NetShow); again, they're at www.klove.com.
P.S.: I'm not 100% positive, but I think the CBS purchase of Amer. Radio Sys. has been wrapped up (it's still listed as "pending" on the Owners page).

Just wanted to let say you have a useful site, thanks for making it
available.
I was looking for the frequency for KPSU and did not see it. It is PSU's
radio station. I suspect is very short range but it might be a good one to
add.

While returning to California from Coos Bay I listened to a Dr. Toni on
the radio. Could you tell me how I can reach her by e-mail. She
mentioned that she had a web site, but I couldn't jot it down. Thanks.

The rhythm'n'blues singer and guitarist BO DIDDLEY will be making his
3rd appearance in just 12 months at The Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR
on Saturday October 10th 1998. It would be great if all the suitable
Portland radio stations were to have some kind of special programming
around that date. (Interviews etc. would be great!) It will also be his
70th birthday on Wednesday December 30th 1998, and, again, it would be
nice if all the suitable Portland, OR ( and all other area radio
stations) could come up with some special programming to mark this
occasion.
Thank you.

I sure enjoyed Earth 105 better than Rosie 105.

Do you know if any stations are currently running any old time radio
broadcasts in the Portland or Salem area? The CBS Mystery Theater(circa
1974) is also being rebroadcast...im not sure if its through affiliates
or syndication. Any information you could give me would be highly
appreiciated. Thanks

Hey all you radio loving guys and gals:
Okay, it's official. On or about September 1 of 1998, I will be joining Santa
Rosa, California's Amaturo Broadcasting Group in two capacities: middays on
oldies KMGG and music director for their rocker, KXFX. It will be my extreme
pleasure to work with such former SF radio notables as Steve Garland, Frank
Terry, Bob Gowa, John Mac Flanagan, and Kathy O'Brien.
This is seriously looking like the most fun gig I've ever lucked into, and I
can't wait!!
Tentative last show day at KFRC is Monday, August 24.
Please pass this info along to anyone who might continue to insist that I have
left the field of broadcasting.
:)

Dear Portland Radio Guide,
Do you know of how I can get in touch with the NEW people at that
station. I would just like to voice my disguest for what they have done.
Do you realize that on Saturdays from 2-4 "The Morning After Show" with
Pat Patterson was the only show in all of Portland that played local
music and nothing but. And he did this faithfully for a year. According
to what you have posted on your site, that means that this show must now
be gone. Can you help shed any light on this?

Hello, I think that your page is great but I would love to have a list of e-mail address to go with that. I wanted to e-mail a question and a few comments for that radio station. I noticed that there were web page hook ups that are wonderful. Thank you.

I noticed in the FCC database that 105.9 will be "KXMX." Smells like
another "Mix" to me. 106.7 already tried and failed as "Mix 106." But
Maybe Jacor can do something better than past and present lame attempts
at Medium or Hot AC.

Where did Earth 105.5 go? It's now some easy listening radio station. I
just came back into town and was disapointed to know it was gone. WHERE
DID IT GO?...if anywhere?

It looks like Hillsboro's KUIK is now on the web at www.kuik.com. Also, you may (repeat, may) want to add links/listings relating to KLVP; the Sacramento-based network that it's a part of is at www.klove.com.
P.S.: Just to forewarn you, the folks at Radio Online (www.radio-online.com) have these links listed, even though none of them work right now--www.620knews.com; www.rosie105.com; www.sunny1520.com; www.kupl.com (which still goes to a basic Teleport page); and www.kxl.com/955fm (www.mix955.com does work, even though it just goes to the Newsradio 750 site). Also, www.kpdq.com appears to be working, but just goes to an empty listing of directories.

Can you tell me if any local Portland radio stations have any old time radio
theater/mystery theater programming? I would really appreciate any
information you could give me!
Thank you so much!

Hello!
Thanks for such a cool web sight. Great job! I'm trying to find out what
happened with Mike Chase from 94.7 KNRK. Any word on why Entercom gave
him the boot?
Thanks,
