• News director cited for lottery deceit
  The Oregonian reports that KVAN news director Paul Hanson was cited by Oregon State Gaming detectives on April 30 for altering a lottery ticket to look like a $25,000 winner.  Hanson counters that the accusations are “outrageous and false” and that he turned the ticket in pointing out to officials the machine printing errors on it.
  
  

• Shore leaves “The Fan”
  Dave Shore the morning host for the past four years at AM 910 “The Fan” departed on April 26 for ESPN radio in Dallas.  The new morning guys on the all sports station are Ken Wyman and Todd Pickett. Allan Davis, from Ottawa, Canada, is named the new KFXX program director.
  
  

• Deb and Donovan out at Kiss-en
  The KKSN-FM morning team Deb James and Jim Donovan were given the boot on April 16.  Afternooner John Williams is reunited with his former morning slot of six years ago at the station.  In other changes Glynn Shannon, from KGON is moved to afternoons at 97.1.  Scott Forrest and Dave McKay are replaced by the adjustments and longer shifts.
  
  

• Murphy and Clark reunite
  John Murphy and Dan Clark returned to the morning zoo lineup at Z100 on Monday March 26.  Also added to the morning lineup is the vivacious Leah Brandon.
  
  

• Schonely returns to radio
  Well-known Portland sportscaster Bill Schonely inked a four year deal to do play by play broadcasting of Portland’s new triple-A baseball team, the Portland Beavers.  The broadcasts start with the first crack of the bat on April 5^th from flagship station AM 970 KUPL. Schonely previously broadcast the Portland Trailblazers from their inception until 1998. 
  
  

• Nelson to Rosie 105, Murphy to Z100
  Portland’s zaniest morning voice, Nelson, who had been with Z100 for more than a decade moved over to Rosie 105 KRSK on Monday, March 5.  Nelson teams up with Terry Boyd for the morning gig.  On the same day, Z100 announced that John Murphy will soon return to the morning show at KKRZ.
  
  

• Slip slidin’ away
  The Ash Wednesday earthquake that shook Portland put area news stations on high alert. Sheila Hamilton was hosting her morning KPAM talk show when at 5 minutes before eleven she exclaimed that studio loudspeakers suspended from the ceiling nearby, "are moving!"  KEX and KXL radio were airing syndicated shows from out of town at the time.  A few minutes later at the top of the hour, KXL’s CBS national newscast was the first to identify the epicenter of the earthquake (near Seattle). All three news stations suspended normal programming with KEX’s Bob Miller and KXL’s Lars Larson stepping in to field calls and clarify information. In a keen sense of clairvoyance KPAM’s afternoon talk host, Dwight Jaynes, had scheduled weeks earlier, a spokesman for earthquake preparation on his show.
  
  
• New FM 105.9 signs on
  After a long wait of over two years, a new Portland area FM frequency has signed on the air. FM 105.9 KBET (licensed to Vancouver, WA) initiated programming an uptempo mix of rock hits from the past decade and a half at 12 noon on Monday, February 5. The slogan is "Star 105-9, your hit music alternative".  Call letters changed to KSTE on February 13.
  
  
• AM 970 changes to Cruisin’ Oldies
  AM 970 KUPL changed from a classic country format to "cruisin' oldies" on January 23. The station features oldies from the early rock and roll era – 1950’s to early 1960’s.
  
  
• Cindy Hanson leaves KINK
  Mid-day KINK musical host, Cindy Hanson departed on January 19 for a "relaxing" lifestyle on the Oregon Pacific coast. Hanson was at KINK for 19 years. Inessa is the new replacement.
  
  

• KOTK goes Wilde
  AM 1080 KOTK replaced the Rick Emerson afternoon show on January 7 with a Florida transplant, Liz Wilde. Wilde’s salacious program, similar in style to Howard Stern, originates in Portland and is syndicated nationally. Wilde previously hosted talk shows in Boston, Chicago and Cleveland.
